A guilty conscience?

Those that read my blog (and commented) about disabled parking passes a couple of weeks ago, may find this follow up story a little amusing (or not).

Last night after eating dinner out we decided to do a quick trip to BJ’s and pick up a few things. As we had Jaden with us and were going to put her in her wheel chair, we used one of the two available disabled spots.

When we came out, a gentlemen with a young child was getting into an suv in the other spot. The 3-4 year old child was clearly giving him (grandfather?) the run around and he seemed very flustered. I looked over at Melissa, smiled and said (very quietly),

“There’s a classic example.”

Just a matter of seconds later the gentleman said,

“Excuse me sir, in case your wondering, my wife is handicapped”.

I was puzzled by this comment and replied, “Is she with you now?”

At this, he got the young girl in his car as fast as he could and screamed out of the parking lot; a guilty conscience? Maybe?

Now I take on board what people have said about perhaps not understanding what constitutes a handicap etc etc, but I just wish people would have a little dignity and only use their disabled pass when the person that is for, is with them.
