He’s Making a List, and Checking It Twice…

t’s that time of year again. The time of year when my mother wants “the list”. Everyone’s Christmas wish list, that is. As a child I hand-wrote my list with precise penmanship. After I moved away from home I emailed my list. This year I figured I would find a nifty online wish list sharing tool. I settled on two to try: Boxedup.com and Kaboodle.com.

Each one sported some unique features, but overall Kaboodle takes the prize in my opinion. Here is a quick review of each one.

Boxedup: While Boxedup offers the opportunity to import your Amazon Wish List, it is terrible at pulling in product descriptions and images. And although the ability to import email address books from all the major email clients – Gmail, MSN Hotmail, Outlook, Plaxo, Yahoo! and AOL – looks good on paper, it’s really quite tacky to email blast your material wishes to everyone you know, don’t you think? I also experienced some slight “downtime” while trying to add an item using the Boxedup toolbar that I conveniently added to my Firefox web browser (while shopping online, you can simply click on the “add” button to add it to your list). The user interface for Boxedup is also quite boring.

Kaboodle: Kaboodle also offers a toolbar for Firefox that allows you to easily add items to your list from online retailers’ websites. It does a perfect job of adding full product descriptions and images, plus it has fields for “size”, “color” and “quantity” and even allows you to edit the descriptions. And good news for those of us who want everything, you can also prioritize your items just in case Santa has difficulty choosing.
